Job Summary:

The Intake/Inventory Specialist is the first person that donors, volunteers and customers see when entering Free Geek Twin Cities. This role balances providing excellent customer service with the fast pace of accepting and processing equipment donations from the public. This role also assists in the upkeep, organization and cleanliness of the FGTC facility/backroom/inventory/storage space. Key Responsibilities:

Donation Intake & Customer Service

  • Primary Point of Contact: Greet donors, facilitate drop-offs, and provide clear information regarding accepted and non-accepted items.
  • Documentation: Accurately track and record all incoming donations to support organizational data and reporting including utiliziing online systems to track and tag items at intake.
  • Data Security: Ensure the strict, secure handling of all devices containing sensitive customer data throughout the intake process.
  • Support unloading donor vehicles and trucks using carts, dollies, pallet jacks and other material handling equipment
  • Workflow Management: Facilitate the efficient transfer of sorted materials to the Recycling Room, Workshop, or Retail departments.
  • Support off-site recycling drives, corporate donation pick ups and education events.

Processing & Triage

  • Initial Inspection: Evaluate donated technology to determine the appropriate path: refurbishment, resale, or responsible recycling.
  • Ability to use scanners accurately for inventory tracking and data entry
  • Collaborate with volunteers and staff to ensure smooth workflows in the intake and processing areas.
  • TV, Monitor and Peripherals Testing: Test equipment for functionality when time permits ensuring they meet safety and operational benchmarks.

Facilities & Safety

  • Safety & Organization: Maintain a clean, accessible, and hazard-free intake area and workspace.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols aligned with OSHA standards; commitment to maintaining a safe work environment
  • General Upkeep: Participate in shared facility maintenance, including sweeping, mopping, and trash removal as assigned and maintain the backroom/stockroom space.
  • Support fellow staff when additional support is needed such as covering or helping in other departments.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid Minnesota drivers license and clean driving record
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly. Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Excellent manual handling skills with an emphasis on heavy lifting and proper body mechanics.
  • Ability to work indoors and out in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to occasionally work early morning shifts to support off-site recycling drives and donor pickups.
  • Hands-on experience operating pallet jacks, dollies and carts in a warehouse setting
  • Basic math skills for counting, measuring, and verifying quantities during inventory tasks
  • Deliver exceptional customer service with a friendly attitude, comfortable interacting with the public.
  • Embrace new processes and changes in an open and collaborative way.
