Clothes Closet Manager
Community Action Center (CAC) is a community-based, non-profit, human services organization that provides and advocates for the basic needs of people and families throughout Rice County. Its programs create a robust safety net for low-income families and include food access, housing, employment services, clothing, emergency assistance, youth services, transportation, health care assistance, and more.
CAC’s resources and staff are integral parts of their communities and include partnerships with schools, businesses, faith communities, and other organizations. This extensive local network allows CAC to pursue community-engaged solutions, prioritize partnerships, and collaborate with thousands of volunteers. Currently, we are looking for a Clothes Closet Manager to help support the community-responsive work of CAC.
Job Title: Clothes Closet Manager
Reports to: Interim Executive Director
FLSA Status: Salaried, Exempt
Compensation: $45,000-$60,000
Hour Status: 30-40 hours per week
Job Summary: The Clothes Closet Manager will manage the retail operations of the Clothes Closet, support staff and volunteers in providing excellent customer service, and engage the broader community in the work of CAC. This position will be a leader at CAC, championing and supporting the culture of a community-based, client-centered, and trauma-responsive organization.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties: CAC’s success is based on the flexibility of its staff and volunteers to dynamically adjust to meet the needs of the community. The primary responsibilities for this job include:
Store Management –Manage a successful, revenue generating store to support the broader work of CAC. Additional tasks and activities include:
Oversee the process for sorting, receiving, displaying and valuing donated items for sale
Manage financial reporting of daily receipts, deposits and sales journal
Project and create sales goals and monitor success
Manage all controllable costs and keep operations profitable
Plan promotions and sale events to monitor inventory
Create store policies and marketing plan that will increase sales and grow the existing customer base
Responsible for maintaining and adjusting operations to stay within the CAC budget, making any changes necessary to sustain the projected profit margin for each month
Ensure a vibrant, clean and organized store environment
Maintain safety and security of the Clothes Closet by following all CAC safety
procedures
Leadership and Supervision – Responsible for directing, supervising, and managing a team of staff and volunteers. CAC staff are looking for a knowledgeable, supportive team leader who will work alongside them and provide responsive and clear direction. Additional tasks and activities include:
Lead and motivate a team of staff and volunteers to ensure quality customer service
Provide consistent, timely, and responsive support to Clothes Closet staff and volunteers
Review, train, evaluate, and provide feedback on staff and volunteer performance
Oversee the Clothes Closet schedule and overall operation of the Clothes Closet
Create flexible staff schedule to meet the needs of the store
Maintain online system for volunteer sign-up and schedule
Provide support and infrastructure for community engagement, empowering volunteers to be part of CAC’s work.
Ensure training, support, retention and recognition of volunteers
Work closely with CAC Resource Center Manager to ensure a smooth and coordinated process for community members accessing free clothing with CAC issued gift cards
Convene regular staff meetings with Clothes Closet staff
Meet regularly with administrative leadership to guide and direct the organization
Community Engagement– Build strong relationships within the community and ensure excellent customer service to all customers, clients, donors and volunteers
Provide high-quality, trauma-responsive customer service to clients and to the greater community
Build strong relationships through Chamber membership and other opportunities to enhance and strengthen the reputation and mission of CAC in the community
Recruit and maintain a strong volunteer base that focuses on building a culture of abundance, hope, support and appreciation for both volunteers and those we serve
Ensure a positive, easy experience for community members to donate to the Clothes Closet
General Responsibilities:

Employ trauma-responsive, person-centered care practices to create a safe and healing space, build relationships, foster agency and invest in the long-term wellbeing of participants*
Utilize crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills to support individuals and families in need*
Follow all mandated reporting laws for vulnerable adults as well as child abuse and neglect*
Attend and actively participate in regularly scheduled organization and team meetings and trainings
Work Environment and Physical Demands: Ability to be on your feet most of the shift except for breaks and lunch. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, bend, kneel, use hands to write, use computers, and lift up to 40 lbs. Employees are subject to a minimal noise level.
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge of clothing brands and vintage clothing
Experience working alongside diverse populations
Demonstrate excellent critical thinking skills
Ability to follow instructions and adhere to policy
Comfortable with technology, including point of sales system
Flexibility to work scheduled Saturdays
